Anthem Kitchens, a Generation Later

Kitchen Remodeling in Anthem usually starts with a kitchen that a large builder put in. Del Webb Corporation opened Anthem with a grand opening in 1998, sold more than 1,000 homes in its first year, and planned for 11,000 to 13,000 homes in total. Most of those homes went up with a short list of builder cabinet and counter options, so many kitchens across Sun City Anthem, Anthem Country Club and Coventry Homes at Anthem look alike. A kitchen remodel is how an Anthem owner makes that space their own.

Where Anthem stands today

Anthem is inside the City of Henderson. The city approved the first phase in November 1997 by annexing 2,535 acres, and a 1999 land exchange brought the total to more than 5,000 acres. Anthem ranked as the sixth-best-selling master-planned community in the country in 2000 and 2001 and fifth in 2005. That steady pace means kitchens here range from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s and later. The earliest ones now have worn cabinet hinges, cracked tile grout and appliances on their second or third set.

A kitchen you can keep using comfortably

Sun City Anthem was built as a Sun City senior community, and many owners there are planning to stay for a long time. If that describes you, it is worth building comfort into the remodel now rather than retrofitting later:

  • Pull-out shelves and drawer bases instead of deep lower cabinets you have to kneel to reach
  • Lever or touchless faucets that are easy on the hands
  • Brighter task lighting under the upper cabinets
  • A wall oven or microwave drawer at a height that avoids bending
  • Wider walkways around an island, and slip-resistant flooring
  • Counters at more than one height if someone in the house prefers to sit while prepping

These are design choices, not a separate product. We can add as many or as few as you like to any of our services.

Services available in Anthem

Full Kitchen Remodels for owners ready to replace everything. Kitchen Cabinet Replacement & Refacing when the layout works but the cabinets do not. Kitchen Countertops to replace original tile or laminate. Kitchen Layout & Island Changes when the builder island is too small or blocks traffic. Backsplash & Kitchen Flooring to modernize the look. Kitchen Updates on a Budget for a refresh with hardware, lighting and paint.

Golf course and country club homes

Anthem Country Club opened its golf course in April 1999, and homes there tend to be larger with bigger entertaining kitchens. Common requests include enlarging the island, adding a beverage center or second sink, and replacing a cooktop island with a cleaner layout. Larger homes also mean larger slab counters, so we plan seams and slab layout carefully and show you where seams will fall before anything is cut.

Community rules and scheduling

Anthem's neighborhoods are organized into distinct subdivisions. If your community association has rules about contractor hours, parking or dumpsters in driveways, let us know and we will schedule around them. Interior kitchen work is a city building matter, so we also check City of Henderson requirements for your scope before we begin.

Anthem Background

  • Opened in 1998. Home sales began in mid-1998 and Anthem's grand opening was held that October, with about 3,000 people attending. More than 1,000 homes sold in the first year, so many original kitchens are now over 25 years old.
  • Annexed by Henderson. Henderson annexed 2,535 acres for Anthem's first phase in November 1997, and a 1999 land exchange brought the community to more than 5,000 acres, all within the City of Henderson.
  • Three subdivisions. Anthem was laid out as Sun City Anthem, a Sun City senior community; Anthem Country Club, whose golf course opened in April 1999; and Coventry Homes at Anthem.
  • Large, fast build-out. Del Webb planned 11,000 to 13,000 homes, and Anthem was the sixth-best-selling master-planned community in the U.S. in 2000 and 2001 and fifth in 2005. Median household income is listed at $115,612.

Anthem Questions

Can you make my Sun City Anthem kitchen easier to use as I get older?

Yes. Pull-out shelves, drawer bases, lever faucets, better lighting, raised ovens and wider walkways can all be built into a remodel. You choose which ones matter for your household, and we price them clearly in the quote.

My Anthem kitchen looks like every other one on the street. What changes make the biggest difference?

New counters and a new backsplash change the look the most for the money. Refacing or painting cabinets and swapping hardware and lighting add to it. If the layout bothers you, an island change is the bigger step.

Do I need approval from my community association?

Interior kitchen work usually falls under the City of Henderson's building rules rather than design review, but associations often set rules for contractor hours, parking and dumpsters. Check your documents and tell us what they say so we can plan around it.

Are original 1998 to 2000 cabinets worth keeping?

Sometimes. If the boxes are dry and solid, refacing can save money. Cabinets near the sink and dishwasher are the most likely to have water damage, and we check those first.
