Kitchens Built Across Seventy Years of Growth

Kitchen remodeling in North Las Vegas starts with knowing when your house went up, because this city grew in bursts. Census counts show 3,875 residents in 1950, 18,422 by 1960, and then a jump from 115,488 in 2000 to 216,961 in 2010. A kitchen from the early-1960s boom and a kitchen from the 2000s tract-home wave need very different plans, and we price and scope each one on its own terms.

Two eras, two kinds of kitchen

The older parts of town date to that first wave, when the city went from a small farm settlement to a fast-growing suburb. Those kitchens tend to be compact and closed off, with original walls that may hide plumbing and wiring we need to trace before anything moves. The second wave came after the city annexed roughly 60 square miles of desert in the 1990s, much of it for newer housing. Kitchens from that period are usually larger but builder-grade: flat-panel cabinets, laminate or tile counters, a small island or none at all, and sheet vinyl or basic tile on the floor.

If your home is one of the 2000s houses, a kitchen remodel often means keeping the footprint and upgrading surfaces. If it is one of the older homes, the bigger payoff often comes from opening a wall or reworking the layout.

What we do in North Las Vegas kitchens

  • Full kitchen remodels: new cabinets, counters, sink, lighting, backsplash and flooring in one coordinated project
  • Cabinet replacement and refacing: new boxes where the old ones are failing, or new doors, drawer fronts and veneer where the boxes are still sound
  • Countertops: quartz, granite and other solid surfaces, templated after cabinets are set
  • Layout and island changes: adding or enlarging an island, moving the sink, or opening a kitchen to the family room
  • Backsplash and kitchen flooring: tile, LVP and other floors that hold up to heavy foot traffic
  • Kitchen updates on a budget: paint, hardware, a new counter and faucet when a full remodel is not the right call

Bigger households, harder-working kitchens

Census estimates put the average North Las Vegas household at 3.12 people, higher than the 2.64 figure for the City of Las Vegas next door. More people means more cooking, more dishes and more people standing in the kitchen at once. We often plan for a second prep zone, deeper drawers instead of base cabinets with shelves, and an island with seating so homework and dinner prep do not fight for the same counter.

Permits come from the city, not the county

If your address is inside North Las Vegas city limits, the City of North Las Vegas handles building permits, and the city also runs its own water and wastewater service. That matters because neighbors a few streets away in unincorporated Clark County deal with a different office. Moving plumbing, adding circuits or taking out a wall can call for a permit; swapping cabinet doors usually does not. We confirm with the right office for your exact address before we put a schedule on paper.

Heat, water and the materials we pick

The city sits in the Mojave Desert at 2,205 feet, with a mean July high of 105°F and about 4.58 inches of rain a year. Kitchens here deal with hot garages where materials get stored, strong afternoon sun through west-facing windows, and white mineral crust around faucets and on glass. We pick finishes that clean easily, suggest faucets and fixtures that are simple to descale, and plan delivery so cabinets and adhesives are not baking in a closed garage in July.

Master-planned neighborhoods and HOAs

Aliante and Eldorado are master-planned communities inside the city. If your home is in one of them, or in any subdivision with an HOA, check the rules on contractor hours, dumpster placement and street parking before demolition day. Interior work rarely needs HOA approval, but the dumpster in your driveway might. We can give you a written scope to send to the board.

North Las Vegas Facts That Shape a Kitchen Remodel

  • Two big building booms. North Las Vegas grew from 3,875 residents in 1950 to 18,422 in 1960, then nearly doubled again from 115,488 in 2000 to 216,961 in 2010. That leaves the city with a large stock of 1960s kitchens and an even larger stock of 2000s tract-home kitchens.
  • Room to grow in the 1990s. In the 1990s the city annexed about 60 square miles of surrounding desert, reportedly to make room for more upscale housing. Much of the newer housing, including the Aliante and Eldorado master-planned communities, sits on that land.
  • Owners who stay. About 63.6% of homes are owner-occupied, the median owner-occupied home value is $404,400, and 85.3% of residents lived in the same house a year earlier (Census ACS, 2020 to 2024).
  • Large households. The average North Las Vegas household has 3.12 people, compared with 2.64 in the City of Las Vegas, so kitchens here tend to see heavy daily use and benefit from more storage and prep space.
  • Desert heat. The city lies in the Mojave Desert at 2,205 feet. July's mean daily high is 105°F, the record is 119°F, and average annual precipitation is only 4.58 inches.

North Las Vegas Questions

My house was built in the 2000s. Is a full kitchen remodel worth it?

Often the footprint in a 2000s North Las Vegas tract home already works, so the money goes further on surfaces: new or refaced cabinets, quartz counters, a tile backsplash and new flooring. If the island is small or missing, enlarging it is a common layout change. We can quote both a surface-only option and a layout option so you can compare.

Who issues kitchen remodel permits in North Las Vegas?

For addresses inside city limits, it is the City of North Las Vegas, not Clark County. Some nearby areas with Las Vegas or North Las Vegas mailing addresses are actually unincorporated county land or part of the City of Las Vegas, so we check your exact address before we plan any work that may need a permit.

Can you open up the kitchen in an older North Las Vegas home?

In many cases, yes, but it depends on what the wall carries. Homes from the 1960s boom may have a load-bearing wall, plumbing or wiring in the spot you want opened. We look at it on the first visit and tell you plainly if it needs a beam, an engineer or a permit.

How do you deal with the white buildup on faucets here?

We cannot change the water, but we can choose fixtures and finishes that are easy to wipe down and descale, and we can leave room under the sink for a filter or softener connection if you plan to add one.
